Integrated Youth Support Service (Connexions and Youth Service)

Young Money

Young money

Young Money will continue until the remaining £50,000 of Youth Capital Fund has been granted to young people. For those of you who didn't know, this funding is available to anyone aged 13-19 living in Portsmouth (PO1-PO6).

The Government has chosen to hand out this funding across the country, as they want young people to have more control around what is available for young people to do in their area. They have decided that only young people can apply for this funding, and that they can apply to improve facilities for young people, or improve existing groups that they are already involved in.

The Integrated Youth Support Service is operating Young Money on behalf of Portsmouth City Council. This funding is part of the Youth Capital Fund, and has come from the Government. If you live outside the Portsmouth area, please contact your local council for details of your Young Money fund.

What can I use it for?

The money can be spent on anything that will increase things to do or places to go for young people in Portsmouth.

Amongst some of the things we funded over the last two years has included fencing equipment to set up groups in Milton, new equipment for some of our Youth Clubs, a redecoration of a youth club, brand new changing rooms in a youth club, a new play area in the North of the city and a training boat for young people to learn all aspects of sailing.

Here are just a few ideas for what young people can use the money for...

  • sports - football + snooker tables = equipment
  • equipment - music + IT
  • new facilities - shelters + skate parks
  • ... and a whole lot of other stuff too that will improve your buildings or facilities!

How can I get hold of it?

The application process is in two stages:

The first stage is a simple form which outlines what you want the money for and how much, which is then sent to the Young Money Panel - who decides whether to sent it to the next stage or not.

If you are successful then you go on to stage two, which is a more indepth application form which also has to be passed by the panel. You can fill in our online Stage 1 application form here.

Alternatively you download the form below and post it to: Young Money, Integrated Youth Support Service, Medina House, 38 Medina Road, Cosham, Portsmouth PO6 3EX.

Who gets to decide what happens next?

Only young people can decide where the money goes. The young money panel (whose members are also aged 13-19) get to look at all application forms, and make all the decisions regarding who gets the funds.

Currently we take young money applications out to youth groups across the city so that they can make decisions on where the money goes. We are always looking for more young people to be involved on the decision panels, so if you are interested please contact the Young Money team.

Please note: In general we will only fund facilities that will benefit groups of young people. Young people will also need the correct support from adults to ensure their safety in the projects we fund. We can also only pay money to groups that have an account that needs more than one signatory to sign a cheque or withdrawal.
